This 5-day course is designed to equip learners with foundational Geographic Information Systems (GIS) skills using Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

The course introduces learners to the end-to-end GIS workflow, from understanding spatial data and map concepts to creating GIS projects, managing geodatabases, editing features, performing basic spatial analysis, building dashboards, and preparing for the Esri GIS Fundamentals Foundation certification.

Learners will progressively build hands-on competency across core GIS functions, including map creation, data management, spatial analysis, visualisation, and sharing. The course concludes with a dedicated certification preparatory workshop to consolidate learning and help learners prepare for the Esri GIS Fundamentals Foundation 2026 exam.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to understand and interpret GIS data, create and manage GIS layers, apply basic geoprocessing workflows, visualise spatial insights through maps and dashboards, and prepare for entry-level GIS certification.

Prerequisites


Learners should have:

  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to manage files and folders.
  • Basic familiarity with spreadsheets or tabular data.
  • Interest in using maps, spatial data, or location-based insights for workplace applications.

Prior exposure to data analysis, planning, operations, engineering, or digital tools would be helpful but is not required.

  • Learners will be guided through the ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online environments during the course.

  • Working with shapefiles, CSV data, KML, and layer packages.
  • Viewing and editing data properties.
  • Understanding spatial reference, projections, and projection mismatches.
  • Coordinate systems and projections hands-on lab.
  • Creating, digitising, and editing point, line, and polygon features.
