Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What is GIS?

GIS stands for Geographic Information System; a technology used to create, manage, analyse, and map all types of data. It connects data to a map, integrating location data (where things are) with all types of descriptive information (what things are like there). This provides a foundation for mapping and analysis that is used in science and almost every industry. GIS helps users understand patterns, relationships, and geographic context. The benefits include improved communication, efficiency, management, and decision-making.

  • Why learn ArcGIS?

ArcGIS is a comprehensive geospatial platform for professionals and organisations built by Esri. It integrates and connects data through the context of geography and provides world-leading capabilities for creating, managing, analysing, mapping, and sharing all types of data.

Developing ArcGIS skills can support careers and projects across industries such as urban planning, infrastructure, environmental management, transportation, public services, business and technology.

  • Which Esri Singapore courses are available through Trainocate?

Trainocate currently offers two Esri Singapore training courses:

GIS Fundamentals: Introduction to ArcGIS Pro introduces the essential concepts and workflows required to navigate ArcGIS Pro, work with geographic data, create maps, and perform foundational GIS tasks.

Applied Geospatial Analysis with ArcGIS Pro builds on the foundational skills acquired in the ArcGIS Pro introductory course, and focuses on using spatial analysis methods to examine geographic relationships, identify patterns, and generate insights from location-based data.

  • Who should attend training by Esri Singapore?

Esri Singapore training is suitable for professionals, students, and individuals who want to develop practical skills in mapping, spatial data management, and geospatial analysis.

GIS Fundamentals: Introduction to ArcGIS Pro is suitable for beginners and individuals who are new to GIS or ArcGIS Pro.

Applied Geospatial Analysis with ArcGIS Pro is suitable for learners who already understand basic GIS concepts and want to apply geospatial analysis techniques to real-world questions and decision-making.
  • Do I need prior GIS or ArcGIS experience?

For GIS Fundamentals: Introduction to ArcGIS Pro, you do not need prior GIS or ArcGIS experience.

For Applied Geospatial Analysis with ArcGIS Pro, familiarity with basic GIS concepts and ArcGIS Pro workflows is recommended. Learners who are new to ArcGIS are encouraged to complete GIS Fundamentals: Introduction to ArcGIS Pro first.

  • What is the difference between the two courses?

GIS Fundamentals: Introduction to ArcGIS Pro focuses on building the essential skills needed to navigate ArcGIS Pro and work with maps and geographic data.

Applied Geospatial Analysis with ArcGIS Pro focuses on using those foundational skills to examine spatial relationships, identify patterns and generate insights from location-based data.

  • Should I take both courses?

If you are new to GIS and ArcGIS Pro, taking both courses in the following sequence is recommended:

    1. GIS Fundamentals: Introduction to ArcGIS Pro

    2. Applied Geospatial Analysis with ArcGIS Pro

Learners who already have equivalent foundational experience with ArcGIS Pro may proceed directly to Applied Geospatial Analysis.

  • Are the courses hands-on?

Yes. Both courses combine instructor-led learning with labs/hands-on exercises, allowing participants to apply the concepts, tools, and workflows covered during the training.

  • Will I receive a certificate after completing the course?

Yes. Participants who meet the course completion requirements will receive a certificate of completion recognising that you have completed the training course.

Please note, this is NOT an Esri Technical Certification, which requires candidates to register for and pass the relevant certification examination.

  • Does the course include an Esri Technical Certification examination?

No. The course fee does not include an Esri Technical Certification examination unless otherwise stated.

Esri Technical Certification is a separate, optional credential that assesses a candidate’s knowledge of ArcGIS products, workflows, and best practices. Learners who wish to pursue certification should review the relevant examination requirements before registering.
