Industrial operations increasingly depend on converged IT and OT networks. Reliable digitization requires network designs that deliver determinism, availability, and security on the plant floor. Cisco's industrial portfolio, including Catalyst Industrial Ethernet switches, Rockwell Automation Stratix switches, IR industrial routers, and industrial wireless, lets teams build, secure, and maintain plant networks using familiar IT tools while aligning to Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) reference architectures.

This course provides a hands-on treatment of industrial Ethernet networking with Cisco technologies. It combines the CPwE design framework with product-level configuration skills on Cisco Industrial Ethernet switches (IE2000, IE3000, IE3400, and IE3400H), the Catalyst 9300 core, and the IR1835 industrial router. Topics include VLANs and 802.1Q trunking, resiliency with EtherChannel and REP, QoS and storm control, Layer 2 NAT, Layer 3 routing, and edge application hosting with Cisco IOx.

Participants build foundations in the OSI and TCP/IP models, configure and troubleshoot the EtherNet/IP and PROFINET industrial protocols, implement industrial network security (port security, DHCP snooping, ACLs, and AAA), and apply structured troubleshooting using Cisco IOS tools, SPAN and Wireshark, and device health diagnostics.

  • Basic networking knowledge: LANs, VLANs, IP addressing, and inter-VLAN routing
  • Familiarity with the Cisco IOS CLI (configuration and verification)
  • Familiarity with industrial automation environments and IACS components (PLCs, HMIs, I/O)
  • Basic understanding of industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP or PROFINET (helpful)
